History
My
family has occupied the Croft for around 200 years. Donald Ferguson (my father)
inherited the house as a young boy when his father was killed in the First
World War.
The corrugated iron house was built after
the war and was inhabited until 1997 by my aunt Morag Buchanan who was the last
surviving member of the previous generation.
I
inherited the croft in 1999 and had to demolish the original black house along
with the byre and the corrugated iron house as they were beyond repair.
I decided to build a new Croft house, one that would evoke the principles of
the original black house design that people used on Skye for generations but
with a contemporary twist for modern and comfortable living.
